The infinite bigness of God

I braved a typhoon this weekend.  Well really, I braved the residual effects of one.  Japan suffered a typhoon on Saturday, and South Korea got some of the storm, too.  I had gone on a bike ride just before the worst of the storm hit, and was forced to seek shelter under a bridge.

As I was sitting there huddling behind the massive concrete pillar, the wind howling and the rain pelting my face, I was struck by how big my God really is.  I wonder if Peter felt a similar way, as he was preparing to step from the safety of his boat into the frothing, furious ocean beneath him, simply because Jesus had told him to do so.  Our God is the God who knit us together before we were even born; who knows the number of hairs on all of our heads; who hung the stars in their twinkling perches; who tells the sun when to rise and the tides when to come in.

And yet, the truly amazing thing is that so often we still try to hide from Him.  We somehow think that the Creator of the Universe, the One who knows every detail of the world, we think that He will not notice our absence, not miss the presence of His dearly beloved children.

But God is a big God - much bigger than we could ever fathom.  Let Him find you.  Let Him take care of you.  He's got big hands - He can do it.  He's a pretty darn capable individual.... :)

Jeremiah 23:23-24
 23 “Am I only a God nearby,”
            declares the LORD,
“and not a God far away?
24 Who can hide in secret places
so that I cannot see them?”
            declares the LORD.
“Do not I fill heaven and earth?”
            declares the LORD.
